At Green Plate Catering, our philosophy is to provide delicious meals and excellent service while supporting our local community and respecting mother nature. We believe every detail and effort makes a difference no matter how small - from our environmentally responsible sourcing practices and plant-based menus, to our zero-waste kitchen. Our mission is to provide our client-friends with a wonderful catering experience that nurtures all.

Founder Kit Wood started Kit’s Catering in the D.C. region in 1983 - vegetarian lunches, delivered by bicycle, baby Ryan strapped into the carrier behind her.

1990s

a new name

As clientele grew, Kit renamed her company to reflect her mission: green plate. A name that honored her growing commitment to sustainable, local, organic food service.

2000s

a kitchen with a mission

The kitchen went zero-waste and earned Green America gold certification - a standard the company has held onto ever since.

Whether you are hosting large corporate events, your wedding, family celebrations, or intimate gatherings, our seasoned staff will take care of everything. At Green Plate we work closely with our clientele to accommodate almost all allergies and dietary restrictions to create abundantly satisfying events for each and every guest.

Our kitchen is zero-waste, Green America gold certified, and runs on wind and solar power. At Green Plate Catering we have partnered with local like-minded environmental organizations and businesses to ensure we are doing all we can, all of the time. We employ veterans to create high quality organic soil, we make stock from our produce scraps to fight local food insecurity, and our emphasis on non-disposable and compostable dishware carries through to the preparation and packaging of every recipe produced in our kitchen.

our family of employees is a melting pot of like-minded individuals who share a love of creating delicious, environmentally-safe fare - and who care deeply about the world it comes from.

Over the years we have gained many friends and allies, cultivating relationships that have made a mark locally in the green food space. Thanks to these individuals, we have been improving and excelling in our field for nearly 40 years, with many more to come.
